Mbeki’s bodyguard has been killed!

I only found out on Sunday through the City Press that Mbeki’s chief bodyguard was shot and killed at his home, a day before his boss was fired by the ANC. I dislike conspiracies, I generally stay away, whether they are of a religious or political nature, they are counter-productive, they are designed to be un-provable, pointless if you ask me.

However I want to make a note that it is a strange coincidence that this has happened! The man was executed in a strange way, his wife was present and they left her untouched, they simply killed the man in cold blood, just like that! We have high levels of violent crime in this country, it is plausible that Mr. Frans Ramashilo was another victim of this scourge, however when a man is shot in cold blood and nothing is stolen, including his service pistol and other valuables that were lying next to him, you have to wonder if this murder is completely unrelated to the shenanigans called ANC internal strife! I hope it is not, we have had enough drama already!

Pitso how come this 'breaking news' did not make into the headlines of other big newspapers? I regularly read IOL and Guardian Online especially in tense moments like this but I didn't catch a glimpse of this news until I read your blog. Could it be that the silence about it has to do with effecting the 'smooth transition' from Mbeki to Zuma via Motlanthe?

Hey Chachage,

Believe me when i say that up until today, i have been asking this question and no-one seems to have an answer. People are more comfortable sidestepping this issue probably because of its potentially explosive nature.

I think there is definitely more to this story than we are made to believe, many seem to think that it is just another story of crime.

Let us wait and see what becomes of it! I will never forget about it, and will follow it as far as i can!City Press had it on Sunday, IOL published it on Friday, but i guess the fascination with Zuma vs Mbeki had taken our minds from a story that could perhaps explain something critical! Maybe I am also flogging a dead horse, but my gut tells me there is fire beneath this smoke!

Hi Pitso,

Enjoying reading your blog, it's so strange that since coming to UK, I trust you to keep me up to date on SA news, more than the SA media :-)

Just a small note, the URL points to Accenture's mail system!

Hey Thomas,

Great to hear fromyou, i hope you have settled well in the UK. Thanks for the compliment...Can u believe that even today, no investigative journalism has been done on this story! Yes it is true that there has been many more new developments around the new president and cabinet, but this story at least deserves some journalist trying to uncover it!

I have now added a few more reputable links on the story!

And this happened today....

Johannesburg - The bodyguard of ANC veteran Mosiuoa Lekota was abducted by armed gunmen outside Pretoria on Friday, the former defence minister told Sapa.

Lekota said the incident appeared to be related to his criticism of the new African National Congress leadership earlier in the week.

"One of the abductors told him, 'this party you and Lekota want to form, you will form in heaven'."
